'Somebody's Son' (Nurturing in passing) #1000speak
Somebody's son is cold
his hands are froze to biting
his body (though not) feels old.
Sat upon a cardboard sheet
Somebody's son, alone
Huddled against a letter box
gloves wet from shifting snow
Across the street a chip shop
full of faces, bright, but one
Sad face's heart is breaking
because she, is somebody's mum.
As she watches through the window
somebody's son lays down to sleep
his head on stone cold concrete
body curled on cardboard sheet
As she turns to place her order
Somebody's mother wipes her eye
and offers up a silent prayer
'Lord, Please don't let him die'
Across the street, now sleeping
somebody's son dreams hungers dream
Of Yorkshire pud, fish and chips
and mint choc chip ice-cream
He doesn't hear her snowy tread
or the "here son" she does tell
It's to dreams come true he comes around
awakened by the smell.
Ten doors up, hugging 'Chippy tea'
a mother's eyes stream
Because somebody's son is smiling
whilst unwrapping hungers dream
Somebody's mother, one portion down
turns away, heads off home
Where waiting, no doubt hungry
are two sons of her own.

This post is my contribution to Aprils 'One Thousand Voices for compassion' movement - a monthly event to promote and encourage good in the world.
On the 20th of each month bloggers and video-makers from all over the world come together to speak for compassion, in the hope of making a difference.
Each month there is a new topic (This months focus is NURTURING) alongside the broader topic of compassion.
#1000speak is a beautiful movement and one I'm proud to be a part of. :o)

There are so many #1000speak contributions, from bloggers all over the World.... I encourage you to check them out if you get a chance, I'm sure you'll find some that resonate with you.

'Bert' - The Very Friendly Butterfly
Once upon a time there was a little girl (we'll call her Littlie..as her Mummy always has) who loved insects.
One Spring day, Littlie came home from school to find that her Mummy had bought her four tiny caterpillars.
Mummy explained that the 'Teeny Weenies' were only borrowed pets, that they were hers to care for until they morphed into Butterflies, and then she would need to set them free.
Littlie looked after the caterpillars very carefully, she fed them special food everyday, and leaves from the garden occasionally, they grew fatter by the day, and Littlie delighted in watching them grow.
When the Caterpillars were fat to bursting they turned into 'Crusties' (chrysalises) and about a week later Littlie woke to find that overnight the 'crusties' had *magically* morphed into four beautiful butterflies.
Littlie fed her butterflies on sugar water for two days, until they were less dozy, and their wings were dry....and then took them to the garden to set them free.
Littlie watched in wonder as three of the butterflies flew out, up, and away, but the last butterfly didn't want to go, he fluttered out onto the grass, he did not fly away.
Littlie giggled ecstatically, and said, "he doesn't want to leave me Mummy, his name is Bert."
Bert walked over to Littlie, and fluttered her finger - Littlie said "Hello."
Bert flew onto Littlie's leg.... Littlie giggled, Mummy giggled, and Bert flapped his wings, but still he did not fly away.
Littlie lifted Bert up, he still did not fly away. Daddy said "Bert must really like you Littlie," and Littlie said, "He does Daddy, he really does, and I really like him too." Littlie was so happy.

Bert flew onto Littlie's chest, he would not fly away. Littlie looked at Bert, Bert looked at Littlie. They shared a moment :o)
Bert flew down onto littlie's shoe, and there he stayed for a very long time. Littlie walked her wobbly walk, but Bert still didn't fly away; and with eyes lit up like a child's eyes should be, Littlie laughed and laughed!
It was time for tea, Mummy picked Bert up gently, and put him on the fence. "Bye bye, Bert, I love you," said Littlie - Bert flapped his wings, whispered, "I love you too Littlie," (T'is true, Mummy heard him!) and flew away.
THE END :o)

Lets hear it for the Hashtags
Last week, I decided I was going to (though it's actually Wednesday, time of writing, because I've a full day tomorrow) take part in (time allowing) #ThankfulThursdays - Promoting Generosity in Social Media
The link above will take you to Sarah Fader's blog, where you can read more about #ThankfulThursdays, but in short, the day is about promoting the work of others, honoring friends, expressing gratitude.
This week I want to say .... 'Thank You for the Hashtags'.
For #ThankfulThursdays (obviously) but also for #Mondayblogs, #ArchiveDay, #BeWoW, #LinkYourLife, #BluSkyFriday and #SundayBlogShare.
I really enjoy these blog share memes - I've met some great people, read too many 'good reads' to mention, and received lots of encouragement with regard to my own writing....What's not to like :o)
I could tell you more about the hashtags myself, but I think as this post is about promoting others, I'll shut up for a bit, and let my friends fill you in :)
I'll kick off with #MondayBlogs, which, To quote my friend Paula "Is the Mother of all hashtag memes where blog sharing is concerned."
Monday Blogs, was created by Rachel Thompson - I love it, I think you'll love it.... I'll let Rachel tell you more about it herself.... Here
***
Next up is #ArchiveDay (Saturday) - I love Archive day, An opportunity to brush up and recycle all those dusty old posts.. and those that are not so dusty :o)
#ArchiveDay is the brainchild of Vicky Charles - again, I'll hand over for more details.... Here
***
#BeWoW (Be Wonderful on Wednesdays) is a weekly Twitter blog share of positive posts.
***
Henrietta M Ross recently created #BluSkyFriday to (in her own words) "Give us all a head start before the weekend kicks in" :o)
More information Here
Henrietta (concerned about the lack of Tuesday love) has also launched #TuesdayShares... You can follow on Twitter Here.
***
#LinkYourLife (another Friday meme) is Shawna's baby. I've not joined in with this one yet, but will do (Time allowing) now that I know about it.
If you head over to Shawna's blog Here she'll tell you all about it.
***
And last, but by no means least #sundayblogshare - The relatively new..but Oh so huge, weekend Twitter Party.
****
I'm sure there are more blog share memes than those Iv'e outlined above (#wwwblogs springs to mind) but (aside from #LinkYourLife which Iv'e yet to dip into), these are the ones that I regularly take part in.
Thanks, all of you, for making me feel welcome, and valued :o)
Thank you for allowing me to share
God bless you, and all those you love

Kimmie's Hymn
To the tune of “You are my sunshine”
Thank you for loving me the way I am, Lord,
I love you truly with all my heart
Praise be to you, God, my loving Father
You know my needs
Before I even ask.
Help me to do good.. and speak your love, Lord,
In the hope that others.. will be drawn to you,
I hope to share your peace with those I meet, Lord,
May your gentleness
And kindness shine through me.
I know you're leading, help me to follow you,
You are so honest, faithful and true.
Dear God I thank you, for all you give to me,
My heart is praising you
With thankfulness and joy.
Please work through me, Lord. Help me to follow you,
Strengthen my faith, Lord, teach me your way.
Dear Lord with your love I can do anything,
Because nothing is
Impossible for God!

Sarah Fader's Fab idea .... #ThankfulThursdays
Today, whilst coughing & sneezing in the general direction of Facebook (I have a virus) I scrolled upon the following update (posted by Sarah Fader)
"I think there is too much narcissism on the Internet. As an experiment, I am going to take one day out of the week where I exclusively share other people's content and not my own. That day will be Thursdays."
Oh, what a fab idea, thought I
so up and off I flew
to share aforementioned fab idea
Upon my blog, for you :)
I'm going to take part - by thanking/promoting someone (or more than one someone) each Thursday.. either here on the blog (time allowing) or on my Twitter/facebook page.
I hope some of you will take part too :)
So, who am I thankful for this week?
Well, I'm thankful for Sarah Fadar, because of the fab idea thing (obviously) but also because she is the creator of 'Stigma Fighters' which gives others (others like me) a voice, raises awareness, and stands up to the stigma that surrounds mental illness.
You can read Sarah's blog (including a bit more about her 'Fab idea') here > old school/new school mom
You'll find the Stigma Fighters blog here > About Stigma Fighters

Today I'm also thankful for my friend Stephanie Neighbour, because she sent me kisses (I like kisses I do :O)) and because she.... Oh wait, I can't tell you - that would be self promotion! ....She made my day though, I can tell you that :)
Stephanie has a fabulous blog, she 'Tells it how it is' - hits you in the feels, and the funnies, and is mummy to the worlds cutest Dachunds. Pictured below.

Lastly, a big Thank you to all my Twitter followers! - You get me through the day :)
I'd be here all day if I named you all in one sitting, so I'm going to pick four a week, don't be upset if I take my time getting to you, I'll get to you eventually :) x
This weeks shout outs go to
Joanna because there is never a day goes by without you popping up to see how I'm doing..and that means a lot! Thanks Jo x
Gerry Wieder For the constant (and much appreciated) blog RTs.. and for all the lovely quotes he shares himself. Thanks Gerry :) x
Henrietta M Ross For being such a supportive friend. Thanks H x
P.S.. She's also an incredibly gifted writer.. >> Click here to read one of my favorite 'H' rambles :)
and last but not least Sharon (Shan to me) I can't put into words how much your friendship means to me Shan.. I love you x
